Colchicine is used to prevent acute attacks of gout and relieve joint pain and inflammation in cases of exacerbation of gout, as the efficacy of the drug is when it is taken immediately at the onset of symptoms.

Colchicine is also used to treat familial Mediterranean fever, an inherited condition that causes episodes of fever, pain, and swelling of the stomach, lungs, and joints area in adults and children 4 years of age and older.

Prevention of gout attacks: once or twice daily.
Reducing gout attacks: one dose at the onset of symptoms, and a lower dose can be taken after an hour.
